Today I want to share how I edit my photos for Instagram. I have always had a love for photography and staring at beautiful images. The accounts I have come across have blown me away and they inspire me to learn more and constantly get better at taking photos.
Editing photos can be tricky, you never want to over-edit, but you also want your photos to stand out. I am so glad these photo editing apps exist or I would be in a lot of trouble lol. These apps make it easy to improve your image quality and make it look like you kind of know what you’re doing. Fake it til you make it right?
The following apps are also great if you want to create a cohesive Instagram feed. You can do this by using the same preset and shooting at the same time of day so that the lighting is consistent. Shooting products or wearing clothes of the same color also helps to create a cohesive feed.
Adobe Lightroom
It has taken me some time to adjust to editing with Adobe Lightroom. With a lot of practice, it has become one of my favorite editing apps to use. Lightroom is full of great tools such as color adjustments, presets, and tone curves. This is a great app for experienced photographers, bloggers, or someone who wants to make quick edits. Adobe Lightroom is available on both iPhone and Android completely free.
While the free version allows you to make some amazing edits, you can purchase the Premium version. Premium unlocks all the Lightroom features and gives you 100GB of storage. You can take your images to the next level by accessing Premium with a 7-day free trial and then $4.99/month. You can also access this app on Mac and PC.
Some Premium Features:
- Adobe Sensei – allows you to tag your photos making them easier to find
- Selective Adjustments – Adjust any part of your photo and apply precise enhancements
- Healing Brush – Allows you to remove objects
- Adjust Perspective – Fix and adjust perspective with geometry slider tools
- Sort People – Add people with Adobe Sensei-powered People
- View, Share & Collaborate – Invite people to add photos and make online galleries

VSCO
VSCO is great for beginners, it makes it so easy to quickly edit photos and upload them to Instagram. The app is free to use for both iOS and Andriod users. It features a wide variety of one-click presets that allow you to create beautiful images all from your phone.
The paid version offers photo preset packs and advanced photo and video editing tools. You can also adjust the intensity of the preset to your liking and adjust the exposure and contrast as needed.
Tezza
This the “cool girl” app if you ask me. Tezza is a popular influencer, fashion, food, and travel blogger. The Tezza app is a one-stop-shop for iOS users to edit images. This app also has a free version that features a few one-click presents like “Mood”, “Vintage, and “Fresh” and of course all the editing tools you need.
The paid version features all presets and templates that you can use to create fun Instagram stories. This app is pretty cool because it allows you to add different effects to create an overall vibe for your photos if you will. The paid version is $1.99/month for photos only and $3.99/month for both photo and video editing.
I am still trying to get the hang of editing, and I have a lot to learn about photography. This is definitely an app you need in your arsenal to create unique content.
Retouch
I love using the Retouch app when I edit my photos because it makes it so easy to remove objects and blemishes. If you look at the images below, you can see there are two blemishes on the lipstick. With the removal tools, I was able to make it look like it never happened.
You can also remove entire objects as long as there is something under it to cover the space. If not the image will be distorted. I usually like to remove the legs on my tripod or products that don’t fit anymore. The trick to a successful flat lay is making sure the products match in color and sometimes styling can be tricky, so having this app comes in handy. Unfortunately, this isn’t free, but I felt it was necessary to have.
Final Thoughts: Which app is the best for editing photos?
The best thing about all of these apps is that they can be accessed on your phone. This makes editing quick and accessible when you are on the go. I use all of these apps for different reasons, but it is not necessary to do so. Each app has a different aesthetic, but you can get the same quality from using just one of these.
It really depends on what your editing style is and what you are trying to accomplish. As I said, I am new to all of this, but I find that editing my photos with all of these apps is fairly easy.
If you are looking to create unique content, you should go with the Tezza app or even VSCO. If you are more experienced Adobe Lightroom would be great for you.
How do you edit photos? Do you use any of these apps or do you use Instagram? Let me know. Also if you have some tips I would love to hear those as well.
