Implementing a skin care routine is so important. Good skin is not just based on genetics, and creating a habit will help maintain youthful, healthy skin. There are so many products and opinions on what’s best for your skin and it can be overwhelming to say the least. Various skin care routines contain more than 10 steps/products, and personally that is entirely too much for me. I created a minimalist skin care routine down to five key steps and products to save time, and get a little extra sleep in the A.M. I rotate between these five products and some of my other skin care favorites.
Skincare became a serious priority for me in college when I started wearing makeup heavily. Makeup wipes didn’t do the trick, they still left behind a layer of residue that caused my skin to breakout. The goal of an effective skin care routine should be to cleanse and treat your skin while locking in moisture. I came up with a routine that does just that. These five steps fuel my skin with all the nutrients it needs. My skin is oily, so I tend to stick with products that won’t create more oil or clog my pores.
If you are not quite sure where to start or which products to choose, I am sharing my simple and effective skin care routine. Although no one’s skin is the same and it is quite the challenge to find the perfect combination, I hope this gives you a better idea of what to start implementing into your routine.
Cleanser
I always start and end the day cleansing my face with The Purity Made Simple Cleanser by Philosophy. This. is. my. jam. I’ve purchased this product over and over again because it’s that amazing. The picture below is the 8oz bottle, but I went and splurged for the 32oz bottle. It comes with a pump, who doesn’t love a pump on a product? Not only is this cleanser is fragrance free, it is so gentle on the skin. The formula is lightweight, and leaves my skin feeling clean, not too dry, or tight.
Toner
After I cleanse my skin, I go in with the Neutrogena Oil and Alcohol-Free Facial Toner which is $6.00 by the way! You get so much product in the bottle and it removes any remaining dirt, oil, or makeup. I tend to gravitate towards alcohol free toners because they don’t dry out my skin or leave small dry patches (annnnoying). I apply a few drops to a cotton ball and gently wipe it across my face and neck.
Eye Cream
This is where I start to apply my cream-based products. After the toner has set into my skin, I grab the Mario Badescu Hyaluronic Eye Cream. While this product is new to my routine, it is becoming one of my favs. It gives me instant hydration and brightness. Hyaluronic acid is known for its ability to retain moisture which makes it great for the undereye area. Products like these are specifically formulated to treat this area and help smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.
Facial Oil
I just started implementing facial oils to my routine, and the Palmer’s Even Tone Correcting Face Oil is has honestly changed my skin for the better. My complexion has evened out, and let me tell you, it’s super hydrating. Not to mention it smells like cocoa butter. We all get the occasional break out that leaves us with some dark spots. The majority of my breakouts occur on my chin and around my nose. I go in with a couple of drops on my face while focusing the product on my problem areas.
Moisturize
Finally, I grab the Rose Deep Hydration Face Cream by Fresh. I’ve purchased the product a handful of times, and I absolutely adore it. It has a subtle rose scent and isn’t too heavy in consistency, so it’s perfect for the Summer months. This product will give you hydrated skin all day long. Although it retails for about $42, I use a generous amount on my face and neck.
There is an adjustment period when it comes to testing out new skin care products. I would only implement one new product at a time, coming from personal experience, you don’t want to overwhelm your skin. After you’ve picked a product, give your skin time to settle into your new routine. Now that I’ve shared my minimalist skin care routine, I would love to know what products you use in your skin care routine to simplify your morning/night time routines.
